    Hubert A. O’Neal, 81, of Hot Springs, formerly of New DeRouche, went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2016. Hubert was born to William and Nancy Crowder O’Neal on July 11, 1934. Hubert spent his adult life teaching, caring for, and educating others. He taught math for 27 years at several school districts in the area. He coached basketball for 23 years. His caring nature was evident not only in his profession, but also in his personal life. Hubert took in many of his family members who were elderly and in need of care. He cared for them all until their death. He was a true testament of character and devotion to others.

    Hubert is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wanda Jo O’Neal.

    He is survived by his brothers; Bill (Lois) O’Neal of Social Hill; Sylvester (Betty) O’Neal of Hot Springs; and Jerry (Linda) O’Neal, also of Hot Springs. He is also survived by his sisters, Glenna Lunsford and Pauline Johnson, of California.

    Services will be held to honor Hubert on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Courtney officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 6-8 pm, also in Atkinson’s Chapel.

    Pallbearers will be John Jenkins, Trey Jenkins, Michael Hannon, Denny Wilmon, Bill Gussman and Dale Johnson.

    Sorry for your loss. Coach O'Neal was my favorite. He taught us discipline and structure in all ways. Will never forget him telling us "books, basketball and boys". While coaching peewee, I often used his plays. He was a good man on and off the court. You are in my prayers.

    We have many wonderful memories of Uncle Hubert. He touched many people's lives in a good way. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our family.

    Prayers and love to everyone. He was a sweet, soft spoken man. He said he did not know much about football, but he would do his best and he always did. He was a special friend.
